WHY CHANGE IT?
BCDF's current logo might allude to what BCDF stands for; Being Creative Down on the Farm, but it lacks sophistication and the confidence that many people want from production studios. Moving forward, I want to keep the charm of the farm, but elevate it.
While researching, I knew I wanted to somehow incorporate a woodblock feel to have the logo still be grounded in reality. So, when I found the fonts Veener and Calder, I felt it was the perfect fit of what I was going for.
After doing research, I decided to refresh BCDF's original logo by keeping their rooster, but giving it new life. I found the most effective way in keeping this logo was reimagining it in a new way, with a weather vane. With the weather vane it shows how the production studio might go with the flow but ultimately takes direction. Weather vanes are also imagery that many people are familiar with, often accompanied by roosters!
I then talked with my art director, I felt I was moving in the right direction but needed to push their original logo even more. Their original rooster lacked the confidence and sophistication that this studio deserves.
MOTION TESTS
Even though I did not have the final mockup of the logo or weathervane, I wanted to figure out how it was going to move, along with the environment that surrounds it.
While working, I continued to explore and experiment with layouts for the final logo mockup. I also had to keep in mind how I was going to showcase the ID effectively. For the final mockup in the ID, i wanted to include a rectangle to allude to the film industry as well as giving more structure.
LOGO VARIATION
When creating the first pass, I got the understanding of movement but needed to improve on how I was setting the scene to focus on the weathervane.
